A drug used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and has a RET fusion gene. It is also used to treat adults and children aged 12 years and older with medullary thyroid cancer that is advanced or has spread to other parts of the body and has a certain mutation (change) in the RET gene. Selpercatinib is also used to treat adults and children aged 12 years and older with thyroid cancer that is advanced or has spread to other parts of the body and has a RET fusion gene. It is used in patients whose cancer did not get better after treatment with radioactive iodine. It is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer. Selpercatinib blocks certain proteins made by the RET fusion gene or the mutated RET gene. Blocking these proteins may help keep cancer cells from growing. Selpercatinib is a type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Also called Retevmo.
