Bengaluru: Fake marks card racket busted, owner of educational institute held.

BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) has busted another major fake mark sheet and degree scam. This time the owner of an educational institution was allegedly involved in selling fake degrees/mark cards of some open universities to make illegal gains.

The accused G.Srinivas Reddy, founder of VSS Institute of Education Research was arrested by the CCB on Tuesday night for his alleged involvement in selling fake mark cards/ credentials to private firm employees.

The police raided the institute on receiving complaints from students and recovered fake mark sheets, degree certificates, rubber stamps of various universities and computers.

The candidates were being given mark sheets of various open universities for Rs 40,000 -2 lakh.

The accused lured students then conducted exams in his institute and gave away fake degrees claiming to be genuine. Fake degrees of Bcom, BA, Mpharma, MBA, MTech, etc. of Open Universities operating in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh were given to candidates, the Indian Express reported citing the CCB Chief and Joint Commissioner of Police.

According to the police, Mr Reddy was giving the bogus mark cards of Delhi Academic Council for Higher Education, Manav Bharati University, Solan Himachal Pradesh, National Institute of Open Schooling, Noida, Dr C.V Raman University Bilaspur, Willian Carey University, Shilong, Meghalaya, Eiilm University, Sikkim, Calorx teachers University, Gujarat, Venkateswara University, Tirupathi, etc.

The accused has been arrested by the police under Sections 420 and 419 of the IPC and investigations are on to find if there are other persons who are parties to the fraud.
