PDGFRA gene

A gene that makes a protein called platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA), which is involved in cell division and cell survival. Mutated (changed) forms of the PDGFRA gene and protein have been found in some types of cancer, including gastrointestinal stromal tumors and chronic eosinophilic leukemia. These changes may increase the growth of cancer cells. Checking for changes in the PDGFRA gene in tumor tissue may help diagnose some types of cancer and plan treatment. Also called platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha gene.
