Fake doctor who scammed £350k from NHS asked to pay back amount.

Phillip Hufton who was sentenced last year to 5 years’ imprisonment for swindling nearly £350,000 out of a Peterborough NHS trust has been ordered to pay back a total sum of £294,747 to the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT)from his ill-gotten gains or face another three years in prison.

A confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act was granted, at a hearing at Cambridge Crown Court, requiring Hufton to pay back the amount. Hufton risks another three years imposed in addition to the prison sentence he is already serving if he failed to pay the amount.

The 52-year-old had worked as a business development manager for the CPFT to promote the trust’s business in the middle east was sacked after staff discovered his lies.

He claimed to be in Jordan for work visiting refugee campus m but a GPRS from his phone placed him in the USA. He was in fact enjoying lavishly on a  family holiday. He had set up a fake email account to authorize his own company expenses of more than £13,000 and ran up a £9,000 invoice bill for trip expenses.

Hufton on his CV claimed to have a Ph.D., a master’s degree and five other diplomas but in reality; he only had a Bachelor of Nursing Degree.

Hufton was sacked in January 2016 after his colleagues raised concerns and further internal investigations were conducted.
