Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has intensified its drive against quacks operating in the slum areas. The crackdown has resulted in the arrest of four quacks who were illegally practising medicine without valid qualifications.

The quacks were posing as Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) doctors and treating the slum dwellers. The accused were allegedly found to be having fake certificates or somebody else’s certificates. None of them had a medical degree. Bogus doctors have been able to practice due to the lack of strict laws.

So far 15 quacks have been arrested and the crackdown is likely to continue as a preventive mechanism.

The accused were identified as Rakesh Tiwari, Dalsingh Yadav, Motilal Maurya, and Anilkumar Bind. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act.
