Maharashtra: Five quacks held for practising medicine without valid degrees

Mumbai: The Mumbai City Crime Branch (CB) has arrested five quacks from south and central Mumbai for allegedly practising medicine without valid degrees.

Claiming to cure sexual problems the accused had put up advertisements in public toilets and railway stations and offered Jadi Buti (herbs) in the name of medicines.

The officials found that two of them were holding a BUMS degrees and the rest had no degree at all. Some of them had not even passed class X. The officials are now trying to track the patients who were being treated by these people.

The accused have been identified as Shahid Hussain Baig (62) from Dongri; Kamaal Hussain (38) from the RAK Marg area; Shahabuddin Shaikh (43) from Antop Hill; Jafermiya Shaikh (55) from Dharavi; and Bilal Hussain (32) from Kurla. They have been operating for years and had the trust of poor ignorant people.

The investigation revealed that Shahid Hussain Baig had cleared Class 8 and held a BUMS degree and practiced under the name of Ansari Ajibulla. Kamaal Hussain had a similar degree and operated under his own name. Some of them had not even passed class X.

The accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the IPC and the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act for cheating, forgery, and endangering the life and personal safety of others.
