Necklace worn to cure diseases
Paul Chamberlen (1635-1717) the inventor of the anodyne necklace claimed that the necklace, when worn by kids, can protect the teething infant from fatal conditions such as Fevers, Convulsions, Consumptions, Ruptures, Chincoughs (whooping cough), and Rickets. Throughout the 1700s this was a popular remedy. After Paul Chamberlen died on 3 December 1717, his nephew, Dr. Hugh Chamberlen, continued to promote the necklace. The necklace when worn was expected to cure the child. Unfortunately, such necklaces are still sold by quacks even today.
