SOOTHING SYRUP FOR TEETHING CHILDREN CONTAINED MORPHINE
Mrs. Winslows Soothing Syrup a product launched by Mrs. Charlotte N. Winslow in 1849 contained morphine and other drugs and was used to provide relief to teething children. While many kids slept well several died due to this narcotic concoction. Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup was denounced by the American Medical Association in 1911 when they marked it as a “baby killer”.
