Enough is enough says IMA.
The Indian Medical Association, the voluntary body comprising of doctors practising modern medicine decides to launch an aggressive anti-quackery campaign across the nation, the free press journal reported.
According to the report a ‘Satyagraha Walk’ will also be planned in New Delhi on March 12.
A WHO report published in 2016, claimed that 57.3% of India’s medical practitioners are quacks. The Indian government first rubbished the report as erroneous but later approved the same data.
Quacks who claim to know everything in the art of healing do not possess the basic medical qualifications or a license. They draw their knowledge from imagination and endanger the lives of innocent patients.
In the past, The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had estimated that there are more than 10 lakh quacks operating in India.
“We are going to launch a nationwide campaign against quackery, cross pathy and violence against doctors. We had launched an anti-quackery campaign two years ago but didn’t get administration’s support as only couple of actions were taken against quacks,” Vice president of IMA-Madhya Pradesh Dr Sanjay Londhe said.
“There are thousands of quacks working across the city mainly in low income and slum areas. Few years ago, we had given a list of 200 such quacks to the district administration and health department but action was taken against only few,” Dr Londhe said.
