Kuwait uncovers 400 fake university degrees

July 23, 2018 at 2:44 pm | KuwaitMiddle EastNews

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced last week that it had uncovered 400 forged university degrees, mostly in the field of law, local media reported.

Sources in the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry revealed that two Egyptians, including one who works in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Higher Education, have been forging the certificates for money.

On Saturday, Kuwait Education Minister, Hamid Al-Azmi, said the ministry had filed 40 such cases to the public prosecutor to take legal action against the perpetrators.

“The discovery of the last batch of forged certificates was the result of cooperation between government agencies, especially the interior ministry and the Civil Service Bureau,” the official said.

He confirmed that “the ministry is currently investigating other cases.”

This is not the first time that forged degrees have been discovered in Kuwait. Last year, the authorities arrested a young Kuwaiti man who forged certificates from Arab countries for $12,000 per certificate.

In July 2016, the government referred 270 cases of forged certificates in medicine and engineering to the public prosecution for legal action.
